Pacific Coast School of Music provides private and group theory classes designed to prepare for
The Royal Conservatory of Music examinations or to further the knowledge of music in general.
Exam applications, exam fees and costs of materials such as textbooks and staff paper are not included in the tuition.
The classes offered are:
Preliminary Rudiments
:In this beginning theory class, the emphasis is on learning to read and write music. Students will also begin the study of scales, intervals and triads. No previous musical experience is necessary. This class is highly recommended for those who are starting private lessons or who belong to a choir or a band.
Rudiments I:
This class is designed for those who have studied Preliminary Rudiments or those who can already read music in treble and bass clefs and know major and minor scales and key signatures. In addition to more advanced study of scales, intervals and triads, students will learn about transposition and cadences.
Rudimetns II:
This class is designed for those who have studied Rudiments I or those who know major and minor scales and key signature, intervals and their inversions, and major and minor triads. In addition to more advanced study of scales, intervals, chords, transposition and cadences, students will learn about open score reading.
Harmony III (Introductory Harmony):
A thorough knowledge of rudiments is required. This class includes analysis and writing of elementary four-part harmony, melody writing
and the study of musical form.
