Minds are like Flowers. If you let it sit there without soaking anythhing up, it will dry up. - Ken Hill
Flower care
Preparation
Remove all stem leaves that will sit below the vase water line.
While submerged in water, cut the flower stems diagonally with scissors to enable the flowers to absorb cut
flower food at the same time as eliminating bacteria that clogs flower stems( stem cutting is recommended
every few days ).
This will also prevent air bubbles forming
- if this occurs water can be blocked and therefore does not draw up into the flowers.
A diagonal cut also provides a wider surface from which flowers can drink.
Food
Ensure your vase is clean and add cut flower food to warm water.
This food will increase the life of your flowers by up to several days
( cut flower food can be purchased wherever flowers are sold ).
Display
Place your vase in a cool, draft-free location, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Do not place on top of your television set.
Maintenance
Top up the water every day and replace totally after a few days.
Spray-mist the flowers too if you are able.
Transfer to a smaller vase when you get down to the last few flowers.
Tips
1. Avoid steel or iron containers.
2. Ensure the vase is leak-proof and has enough room for your flowers and water to fit comfortably.
3. For some flower arrangements you may want to utilise a brick of floral foam to hold flowers
in place
( soak the foam in water containing floral food solution - allow the foam to soak up
the water at its own rate
- cut to fit the shape of your container, leave room for water - foam cuts easier when wet ).
4. The height of your vase should be about one third a half as tall as your vase - this will maximise the chances of your flowers remaining in a upright position ( you can always create a grid on top of your vase with clear tape to aid placement of your flowers ) .
5. Flowers too short for your favorite vase?
Simply add pebbles or marbles to the bottom of the vase.
